Sometimes we have a sweet tooth that we just can’t shake. However, when we try to resist we oftentimes find ourselves face down in a box of Oreos. Instead of fighting it, find some sweet and healthful alternatives. Here are a few of my favorite ways to satisfy my sweet tooth, made with wholesome ingredients you will love!
Cinnamon Baked Apple
Most baked apple recipes call for a lot of butter and sugar. In this version, I love how theDetoxinista uses coconut oil and maple syrup to create a natural sweetness.
Ingredients:
- 4 Granny Smith apples, cored and roughly chopped
- ¼ cup pure maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350˚F. In a large, oven-safe skillet over medium heat on the stove, combine all of the ingredients and bring the liquid to a boil. Stir the apples until the liquid thickens and becomes a bit sticky, about 1-2 minutes.
Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 30 minutes, stirring halfway through the baking time. The apples are ready when they are fork-tender and caramelized. Serve warm as is, or with your favorite topping.

Fresh Fruit Sorbet
To be honest, I really enjoy simply blending frozen fruit for a quick sorbetlike dessert! However, if you are looking for the normal creaminess of a sorbet, it’s important to add some sort of sweetener. I like how agave adds to both the texture and the flavor.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound frozen fruit (I love strawberries and raspberries, but any fruit will work)
- ½ cup agave
- ¼ cup lemon juice
- ¼ cup water
Directions:
Blend all ingredients until thoroughly mixed. Either serve immediately or freeze in an airtight container for later.
Salada Green Tea Chai Spice Latte
This time of year calls for something warm and comforting. The best thing about tea lattes is that they can really be made with any type of Salada tea. However, using Salada’s Green Tea Chai Spice is my absolute favorite.
Ingredients:
- 1 bag Salada Green Tea Chai Spice
- ¾ cup milk
- ¼ cup boiling water
- 1 pinch of cinnamon
- Honey to taste (optional)
Directions:
Steep the Salada Green Tea Chai Spice in the water for 3-5 minutes. Meanwhile, warm the milk in a small saucepan. Combine the tea, milk and honey to your desired taste. Garnish with the cinnamon and enjoy!
Peanut Butter Dip
Apples and peanut butter are one of my favorite snacks. However, when I’m just there with a jar of PB it can quickly get out of hand. That’s why I really love this recipe from PopSugar. She combines peanut butter with Greek yogurt and a little maple syrup for a creamier dip that is a little less dangerous than a jar of PB!
Ingredients:
- 6 ounces of vanilla Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter
- ½ tablespoon maple syrup
- ⅛ teaspoon cinnamon
Directions:
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Serve with sliced apples, pears, bananas, strawberries or grapes. Store unused portion in the fridge.
Dark Chocolate
Sometimes you don’t want to make a production of dessert, but rather just want a great-tasting sweet dessert. In this case, my go-to is always dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is not only delicious but also has many heart health benefits. Most of the benefits come from the amount of cacao that is used when making the chocolate. In order to get the most health benefits, look for chocolate that is at least 70 percent cacao. The stronger taste also goes a long way so you will be more satisfied with a smaller amount!
