Here in San Diego, there is a local restaurant chain called Wahoo’s Fish Taco.  It’s a fairly simple restaurant that serves up food with a Mexican, Asian and Brazilian influence.  The walls and windows are covered with surf and skate stickers and it will be full of people who are much younger and much cooler than you!

You really can’t go wrong with anything that you get there, but my favorite is their shrimp tacos.  They are light and cooked in a way that creates a perfect combo of sweet, savory and spicy.

Last time I was there I was inspired to give my own shrimp taco recipe a try.  Full disclosure, I have ZERO idea what they put on their tacos and am honestly not sure if this tastes anything like them!  What I do know is that this quick and easy recipe was absolutely delicious and I wanted to share it with you!  Enjoy!Shrimp Tacos

Sweet & Savory Shrimp Tacos

  • 1/2 lb raw shrimp, shells removed
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch of cayenne
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp tamari
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 4 corn tortillas
  • 4 tbsp cotija cheese
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 fresh lime, quartered

Toss the raw shrimp in the garlic powder, black pepper and cayenne.

Saute in coconut oil over medium-low heat while adding tamari and honey.

Serve on toasted corn tortillas with 1/4 avocado slice, 1 tbsp cotija cheese and a squeeze of fresh lime.

Makes 4 tacos.
