RECIPE: A Superfood Smoothie that Tastes Like Dessert!

November 20, 2014

We’ve come to associate superfood smoothies with scary green concoctions that taste very similar to grass! However, there are many other wonderful ingredients that you can pair together to make your smoothies healthful and pleasurable. An example of one of these smoothies with delicious ingredients is a Salada White Tea Peanut Butter and Cacao Smoothie.

The chocolate that we know and love is made from the bean of the cacao plant. This bean is high in flavonoids (great for heart health), magnesium (great for sleep and stress relief) and fiber (great for lowering cholesterol). I love using raw cacao powder in my smoothies to give them a chocolate dessert-like taste. However, raw cacao does not have the added sugars in the chocolate that we are used to, so you will need to sweeten it yourself. In the case of this smoothie, I used natural fruit as well as agave. Dates, honey and stevia are other fantastic options!

In addition to the superfood powers of cacao, I used Salada’s White Tea as a base. I love Salada’s White Tea because it contains the health benefits of green tea but with a more delicate taste. However, any Salada Tea will do, so experiment and let me know what you come up with!

Here is the full recipe to my Salada White Tea Peanut Butter and Cacao Smoothie.

  • ½ cup Salada White Tea (brewed)
  • 2 tablespoons.raw cacao powder
  • 2 tablespoons.peanut butter
  • 1 banana
  • ½ cup vanilla almond milk
  • 6 ounces plain Greek yogurt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon agave nectar
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 teaspoon raw cacao nibs (optional)

Combine all ingredients except the cacao nibs and blend. Garnish with the cacao nibs (optional) and serve!

Makes 2 servings.

And remember, a few small steps can lead to big changes.
