Healthy Dessert Recipes

February 12, 2025

When it comes to healthy dessert recipes, it is important to define what the word “healthy” means in this context. In my definition a healthy dessert means that it is:

  • Made with simple, unrefined ingredients (ideally that you usually have on hand)
  • Easily portioned
  • Ideally other active ingredients such as protein, fiber, vitamins & minerals that help balance out the sweetness

Here are a few of my favorite healthy dessert recipes!

PB Stuffed Chocolate Dates

This healthy dessert recipe was originally created by Brittany over at EatingBirdFood.com. They are really simple and you can have a lot of fun with different toppings! I recently made them into little footballs for a Super Bowl party. Check them out HERE!

Yogurt Bark

This is probably the most truly healthy dessert recipe as it combines protein packed Greek yogurt and fresh seasonal fruit. There really is unlimited possibility with toppings and super fun for kids to make them their own.

Chocolate PB & Protein Bites

This healthy dessert recipe is simple spin on a peanut butter cup. I added in some vanilla protein powder to kick up the protein, add a little extra sweetness and make it easier to shape.  You could also use powdered peanut butter for an extra PB kick!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (or other nut butter)
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate
  • 1 tsp coconut oil

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Combine the peanut butter and protein powder into a dough-like ball. Divide in half and then into thirds to make 6 even sized portions.
  2. Shape each portion into any shape (I love a heart!) and place on parchment paper.
  3. Melt the coconut oil and dark chocolate.
  4. Coat each PB heart with chocolate and place back on the parchment paper. Refrigerate until the chocolate hardens (~30 min.)

Mug Cake

A mug cake gives all the flavor and coziness of a full chocolate cake but in a single serving form.  The best thing about this healthy dessert recipe is that you can alter it based on your dietary preferences. Meaning you can use any type of flower (gluten free, almond, wheat, etc.) any type of fat/oil (coconut, PB, butter, etc.) or even cut down on the fat and calories and swap the oil for apple sauce or fruit. It really is a choose your own adventure!

Baked Cinnamon Apple

This recipe is the simplest of the healthy dessert recipes, but still a crowd pleaser. It relies on the natural sweetness of the apple and amplifies the flavor with a little cinnamon and either butter or coconut oil. It is great it the cooler months and makes your house smell warm and cozy.  Having said that, they are still absolutely amazing cold, so don’t sleep on them during the summer.
