Although hydration is important all year round, during the summer months it is especially important to make sure that you are hydrated as you enjoy outdoor activities. However, the most important thing is not that you are drinking enough water, but that you are absorbing enough water. The key to water absorption is tiny ions that are commonly referred to as electrolytes.
The most popular electrolyte drinks are sports drinks. However, sports drinks often contain refined sugars and artificial flavors. Instead you can easily make your own electrolyte-filled drink with a few simple ingredients:
- 2 cups Salada Green Tea Family Sized Raspberry Iced Tea
- ¼ teaspoon Himalayan Sea Salt
- ¼ cup fresh fruit juice (squeezed or 100% fruit juice)
- 1 teaspoon raw honey (check out this blog to learn more about why honey is so amazing!)
This recipe will make about 2 cups, but I like making it in bulk so I can quickly fill my water bottle when I’m heading out the door.
The best thing about this electrolyte drink is that you can change it up based on what you have on hand or the specific flavor preferences of your family. I’d love to hear any flavor combinations that you come up with. Be sure to let me know by posting it in the comments below!
And remember, a few small steps can lead to big changes.
